Oh Smoothies!, This is probably the happiest I’ve ever been to write a post, Can’t believe it took us this long to talk about the single greatest drink that ever lived–Smoothies!. A Smoothie is essentially, a drink made from mixing pure raw fruit and/or vegetables, typically using a blender. It has various physical benefits such as improving bone health, enhancing immunity, detoxifying the body, improving the skin and helping to lose weight. Honestly, the benefits of smoothies surpass human imagination, and even deserve it’s own post which I’d get to some day, but right now, we need to focus on easy recipes anyone can make, anywhere and anytime.
1.STRAWBERRY BANANA SMOOTHIE –THE QUEEN OF SMOOTHIES.
Ingredients: 1 frozen peeled banana, 1 cup of washed strawberries, 1/2 cup of vanilla yogurt, 1/2 cup of almond milk, 2 teaspoons of honey, a pinch of cinnamon and 1/4 cup of ice (optional).
Toppings: Strawberry Fruit.
Steps:
- Pour the 1/2 cup of vanilla yoghurt into the blender.
- Pour the cup of almond milk into the blender.
- Cut your frozen banana into two/three halves and pour in the blender.
- Cut your strawberries into two halves and set aside.
- Have your honey, Cinnamon and Ice at hand.
- Pour the cup of strawberries into the blender, then blend this mixture of the vanilla yoghurt, banana and strawberries for about 15 seconds.
- Add 2 teaspoons of honey and a pinch of cinnamon, then blend again for about 15 seconds.
- Add your 1/4 cup of ice, and blend for a full one minute. (You can blend for lesser time if you prefer a thicker, creamier drink.
- Pour into a cup and top with the strawberry fruits.
- Serve chilled.

Tips: Personally, I recommend using frozen fruits over fresh fruits with ice, either way works perfectly though. Also, when the recipe says Ice, we mean crushed over cubed, which is easier for a blender to break up. Never cubed ice for your smoothies please!
P.S. The quantity of ingredients depends on the number of people yearning to taste your amazing smoothie.
2. TRIPLE BERRY BLEND SMOOTHIE
Ingredients: 1 cup of mixed blackberries, blueberries and raspberries, 1 cup of milk, 1 cup of Greek yoghurt, 1 cup of ice.
Toppings: Strawberry fruit, Blueberry, or Kiwi fruit.
Steps:
- Pour the cup of milk into the blender.
- Pour the cup of Greek yoghurt into the blender.
- Add the cup of mixed berries to the blender.
- Pour your cup of ice.
- Blend for 30 seconds.
- Pour into your cup and Top with Strawberry/ Kiwi fruit.
- Serve chilled.
P.S. Always add the liquid first. This lubricates the blender blade and keeps the solids moving. A liquid barrier also keeps the blender from overheating and reduces the noise of the blade as it goes to work.

3. SWEET TROPICAL SMOOTHIE
Ingredients: 1 banana, (sliced and fresh), 2 cups of frozen mango chunks, 2 cups of frozen pineapple chunks, 1 cup of coconut milk, 1 kiwi.
Toppings: Granola, Nuts or Acai Berries.
Steps:
- Pour the cup of coconut milk into the blender.
- Add your sliced banana.
- Pour in the cup of frozen mango chunks
- Pour in the cup of frozen pineapple chunks.
- Add-in the kiwi fruit
- Blend for 30-45 seconds
- Add more milk if needed to make it thinner.
- Top with Granola/Nuts as desired.
- Pour into your cup and serve.
P.S: Toppings aren’t necessary, they are really just added to beautify the smoothie and also to add flavor, they include, but aren’t limited to: Chopped almonds, Shredded coconut, Fresh kiwi, Mango and Blueberries. I’d recommend them but, truthfully they could be done without.

4. CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER SMOOTHIE
Ingredients: 2 frozen bananas, 2 tablespoons of peanut butter, 1 tablespoon chocolate protein powder, 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder, 1/2 cup unsweetened Greek yogurt/ almond milk, 1 tablespoon of Honey, 1 tablespoon of chia seeds (optional).
Toppings: Sliced Banana, Chocolate granola, Chia Seeds, Peanut butter to drizzle.
Steps:
- Pour the 1/2 cup of unsweetened yoghurt or almond milk into the blender
- Add a tablespoon of chocolate protein powder.
- Add a tablespoon of cocoa powder
- Pour the chopped frozen banana.
- Add a tablespoon of chia seeds to thicken your mixture
- Add a tablespoon of honey as a sweetener.
- Blend for 45 seconds.
- Pour in a bowl/cup and Serve.

Tips: I’m an advocate for longer blending minutes. So in my opinion, blending for 30 seconds to a minute or more, makes the drink far much smoother and the texture so much better than going at it for 10 seconds and less.
5. TROPICAL GREEN DETOX SMOOTHIE

- Blend this mixture for about 10 seconds.
- Slice and add-in the 2 frozen bananas.
- Pour in the bowl of frozen mango chunks.
- Pour in the bowl of frozen pineapple chunks.
- Pour the tablespoon of ginger.
- Add the 1/4 cup of ice.
- Blend for 45-60 seconds until it’s smooth and creamy.

- Pour into a cup and Serve Chilled.
- Add two cherries/a slice of pineapple as a topping if desired.

Tips: So I know people that add rum to their pina colada smoothies. I advice you not to, cause that just turns it into just another alcoholic drink. You want to detoxify your system with your smoothie, so let’s do just that.
